Milligrams and micrograms measure mass
A milligram is one thousandth of a gram. A microgram is one millionth of a gram. Therefore one milligram contains one thousand micrograms. The abbreviations mcg and µg refer to the same mass unit.
1 mg = 1,000 mcg
0.1 mg = 100 mcg
0.25 mg = 250 mcg
500 mcg = 0.5 mgHow to convert mg to mcg
Multiply the value in mg by 1,000. For example, 2.5 mg × 1,000 = 2,500 mcg. To work in the other direction, divide mcg by 1,000.
Why mg cannot be converted directly to syringe units
mg and mcg describe mass. mL describes volume. U-100 marks describe volume on a particular syringe scale. You need solution concentration to connect mass with volume.
